Effie Yeaw Nature Center hosts family-friendly programs

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers park ranger Gary Basile teaches a group of students from Maple Elementary School about the wetlands.

It’s generally regarded that most young children have a fascination with animals. Whether it’s the indoor housecat or the goldfish in the fish tank, many kids have a natural tendency to gravitate towards animals. The Effie Yeaw Nature Center located in the Ancil Hoffman County Park in Carmichael has taken advantage of this fact by providing free programs nearly every weekend. These programs teach about the natural wildlife right here in Northern California.

Pet of the Week- Jumping Jack Frost

What a perfect name for a happy boy!

This four-year-old Labrador Retriever mix is outgoing, people friendly and a lover of treats. "Jumping Jack" also has a super soft, fluffy coat of fur making him even more lovable! When you first meet him, he might seem a little hyper, but once you get him outside to burn off some energy he will be your best friend. (Older kids OK; No cats please!)

Don't miss our Home for the Holidays promotion going on NOW through December 30! All animal adoption fees are 75% off which means fur- balls like Jumping Jack are just $25! Includes spay/neuter, vaccines, microchip and license.

Will Tessie even care that my homemade dog treats are wrapped in holiday-themed cellophane and stuffed in her own monogrammed stocking?

Give A Holiday Gift: Open Your Heart to a Pug

Give A Holiday Gift: Open Your Heart to a Pug

SACRAMENTO,CA--With the holidays comes an incredible need, one that is not seen by most, but when discovered hard to ignore.

Cuddly, warm- hearted, peppy Pugs of all ages are left homeless in a season when animals are not top priority.

Some are abandoned, others surrendered only to be left at a shelter or area pound where their lives are often cut short due to overcrowding.

Pug Rescue of Sacramento is a non-profit organization dedicated to making sure that doesn’t happen. PRO’s is comprised of Bay Area and Sacramento volunteers prepared to mobilize when needed, but during the winter months their numbers are few. That’s why PRO’s is asking for the community’s help to lend a hand and save a warm-hearted, loyal Pug in need of a loving home.
