Mangia this weekend at Festa Italiana!

Mangia this weekend at Festa Italiana!

Want to indulge with a capital "I" this weekend? What better way than at the Sacramento Italian Cultural Society's Festa Italiana! Now in its 28th year, the two day festival celebrates the Capital City's Italian community with music, dancing, shopping, and of course, the country's deliciously rich cuisine. (Why not stuff your face with a cannoli... or two...or five.)

Not Italian? Not to worry. You don't have to be to enjoy the festival's fanfare. There is a little something for everyone. For only $12 (or free if you're under age 15), attendees can enjoy a lively Italian Marketplace, children's games and rides, bocce ball, an Italian cars and motorcycles show, and a number of musical and dance performances, including a special appearance by Dean Martin impersonator, Matt Helm.

Joan Jett Greets Fans at Farm Sanctuary Benefit

Joan Jett Greets Fans at Farm Sanctuary Benefit

Fans queued outside The Plum Café Friday afternoon to meet rock and roll mega-star Joan Jett.  Jett hosted a benefit for Farm Sanctuary, a leading farm animal protection and rescue organization in America. While there, guests and supporters were able to enjoy a vegetarian buffet, as well as a meet and greet with the legendary musician.

News 10 had a chance to speak with Jett about her involvement with Farm Sanctuary.

“I think what they do is good work— it’s a unique niche.” Jett discovered the Sanctuary while they were on a rescue mission. “There was terrible flooding on the Mississippi. I read about cattle being stranded on high ground and Farm Sanctuary sent trucks to pick all those animals up.”

Jett has had a long career in the music industry and continues to perform for die-hard fans from multiple generations. She calls the range of ages in her fans “beautiful”.

Make It a Festival Night in Sacramento

We're halfway through summer, which means it's festival time! Here are a few ways you can get your grub on at some of Sacramento's upcoming festivals.

161st Annual California State Fair, Cal Expo, July 11-27
As always, there will be hundreds of food vendors on hand at the historic fair at Cal Expo -- spaghetti ice cream, chocolate covered bacon, or fried anything -- but I especially can't wait to pick up some fresh produce from the Friends of the State Fair Farmers Market to help me stay on my healthy track! For details.
