Bruce Dixon Does "Amanda"

Sacramento -- Bruce Dixon sings his acoustic arrangement of Boston's immortal love song, "Amanda." Buce is opening for Lightning Boy Kory Gibbs -- the astonishing 13-year-old lead guitarist from Amador County -- for a one-night performance with the Thundering Blues Band at Sutter Creek Theater on Friday, July 19 at 8 p.m.

Advance tickets are $8 at www.suttercreektheater.com and $10 at the door. FREE for kids up to 10 years old. Seating is limited.

Sutter's Fort "Hands on History" Event this Saturday!

As part of an ongoing focus to provide high-energy, interactive and educational activities, Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park (SHP) is proud to present a special “Hands on History: War in California!” event on Saturday, June 15, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

Stepping back in time to 1846, the Fort will re-visit a time when Mexican California was in a continuous state of political unrest and threats from foreign powers were a constant menace. The English Navy was anxious to have a good seaport on the Pacific Coast and kept warships in the area; French emissaries had approached John Sutter for an alliance; United State President James Polk was espousing the concept of “Manifest destiny” and the dream that the U.S.

The annual Carmichael Park Community Band Festival will be held during the weekend of June 1-2 at Carmichael Park’s amphitheater featuring 14 performances.

Sponsored by the Sacramento Valley Symphonic Band Association and the Carmichael Recreation and Park District, this year’s event is expected to be one of the largest community band festivals in California in more than 20 years.  There will be a community band playing on the hour every hour starting at 12 noon through to 7 pm.

Sacramento Museums Drive Summer Excitement With Outdoor Events & Activities!

In addition to its fascinating Gold Rush past, the Sacramento area is rich with an amazing array of state-of-the-art museums and historic sites that offer visitors the chance to explore California’s fine art, history, science, and wildlife treasures all year long.  In June, a number of the 30 members of Sacramento Association of Museums (SAM) are celebrating the summer with special outdoor events and activities, a sampling of which follows:

Visit 10 local homes that showcase water-efficient gardens from Roseville’s popular Cash for Grass program. Attend the Do-It-Yourself (DIY) Expo to talk with River-Friendly Landscaping Green Gardener professionals, University of California Master Gardeners and other industry experts.
